Peace Tree Farm

It's not the end of the world...

...but you can see it from there.  And if I hadn’t seen it with my own two eyes, I wouldn’t believe it.

Imagine, if you will, a television commercial for the Victoria’s Secret “Angels Collection”, with surreal post-modern young women lounging about in underwear and feathery wings as out-of-focus images of Venice swirl across the screen.  Imagine the soundtrack for such a commercial:

I’m walking through streets that are dead
...
My feet are so tired, my brain is so wired
And the clouds are weeping

Recognize the words?  That’s three of the four lines of the opening verse of Bob Dylan’s Love Sick, from his 1997 release, Time Out of Mind.  Yes, that’s right ... Dylan has sold his song for use in a commercial.  A Victoria’s Secret commercial, fercryinoutloud.  Not only that, if it isn’t Bob himself croaking out the lyrics, then it’s a spot-on mimic.

Bob Dylan singing a lingerie ad… This must be a nightmare… When I wake up from it, who knows what else will prove to have been just a flight of (very scary) fancy?

Comments

I just bopped onto this site, and low and behold, there looks to be some interesting conversing going on....

Can someone tell me what this site is all about, if I am suppose to join, who are the commentators and if it’s cool if I come along...?

Why, thanks for the support, Curly!  This blog is mainly my outlet for venting and discussing life, the universe, and everything.  A few others, mainly based in a couple of the other blogs I’ve listed over on the right side, pipe in on occasion.  Just as I pop in on their blogs as well.

No memberships, no charges, no nothin’ like that.  If you want to post a comment on something I say, go for it!

Okay, Cool “N”!

Thanks for the welcome.

I don’t know what a “blog” is, but it sounds like good fun.  I have already read some interesting postings on here, so I may drop by more frequently!

Are you English?  Is a “blog” along the lines of a “bloke” or a “bird” thing...?

BTW,

The real reason I even found this site is because I was looking for the name of the song on the Victoria’s Secret commercial.  And whilst searching on Google, this site came up.  I should have known it was Bob Dylan.

I did recognize the voice.

**shucks**

Ooops, forgot to post a response to Curly’s comment of a couple of days ago, in which (s)he wonders what a blog is.

The answer is that the term is slang for weblog, which is nothing more than a web-based “diary”, usually open to comments by anyone who has something to add.  Kinda like this one!

It’s a phenomenon that has grown exponentially in the last year or two.  There are literally thousands of blogs, some oriented toward specific topics, others general ramblings on whatever comes to the writer’s mind, still others seeming to be very much like regular diaries (except that they’re shared publicly with anyone who wanders by).

This particular blog is ... well, in today’s world situation, it’s basically political and basically on the left wing of the Democratic party.  I’d love it if there weren’t so very many (what I perceive to be) outrages perpetrated by the monsters who purport to represent and define the interests and actions of my nation; if I could concentrate on local issues or sporting events or music or whatever, I’d be perfectly happy to do so.

The entry you noticed, which has become far and away the most common point of entry into my blog, is something of an aberration, in that there’s no direct political content at all.  I’ve referred to Dylan in a few other entries, usually pointing out the applicability of some lyric or another to contemporary politics.

Wow -

A “blog”.  I like that.  I would like to have one for myself.  Someday.  I’d like to have a house too.  Har.

Yes, the current world situation / situations is / are troubling.  I would hesitate to imply that I don’t like to keep abreast of the news because that’s not entirely true.  It’s all much like a bad car accident.  In a way, it bothers me to read the news / watch the news because I fear that, with limited time investment, I am not gaining a full appreciation for the scope of the situation / situations.  This is probably for a variety of reasons.  One is, I think we are inundated with propaganda, be it right or left wing.  Another is, and this could sound like a cop out, being a graduate student I am inundated with work and reading out the wazoo and so time is scarce and precious.  Sometimes the “free” time I have I spend riding a bike or reading something that doesn’t scare the crap out of me, like the news.

Anyway, that’s kind of funny that this one posting has become the biggest portal to your site.  **guilty**

When time allows I’d like to check out more of your postings!

I’m a Victoria’s Secret employee, and after being forced to endure listening to Sting’s “Songs of Love” CD for 3+ months, I thank god that Bob Dylan is now playing in my store--regardless of whether or not it means he’s “selling out”.
