Mysteries of Google

Examining my SiteMeter stats a moment ago, I noticed something really strange.  Now, what I was actually looking for was how much of today’s extra traffic—gee whiz, 27 whole visits already—came here as a click-through from this morning’s posting on The Sideshow (thanks a bunch, Avedon ... it’s always greatly appreciated!).

One rather lengthy visit today came here because of a Google search.  Not that googling is a rare cause of visits here ... usually, however, they’re due to long-ago postings.  The most common, I’ve found, are searches such as dylan victoria’s secret, bush tax return rangers, and (obscurely) sonora webster carver.

Today, the search string was david irons mother.  Not unexpected, I suppose.  But I’m absolutely flabbergasted that this blog came out as the very first result of that search.  Nope, not Goldy’s definitive post at HorsesAss.org, and neither Darryl’s entry at HominidViews nor his great letter to Irons while guesting at Jesus’ General.

We’re #1!!  But I don’t have the slightest idea why.

N - do you think it’s possible that Avedon’s link might have increased your “ranking”, and because of that your visibility, for Google?  I just posted earlier today about something similar when I get linked from Daou Report.  Interesting.
