Nipping Discovery in the bud
[cross-posted from WashBlog]
Buried on page 18 of the King County election results from Tuesday’s great day at the polls is this little item:
City Of Newcastle Council - Position 5
Dan Hubbell NP 839 53.99%
Steven Buri NP 709 45.62%
Write-in 6 0.39%
Now, by all indications, Dan Hubbell is a fine fellow who will do well by the small Eastside city of Newcastle. What’s really noteworthy about this election, however, is that he has apparently thwarted the nascent political ambitions of this guy, who’s a big cheese—Executive Director and Vice President—at [WARNING: not recommended for reality-based readers] this place.
This is not to say that Buri won’t try again ... vermin have the nasty habit of springing up repeatedly unless we’re vigilant. Still, it’s good to see that the good people of Newcastle sent Buri scurrying away this time around, before he could become entrenched in the political system as an incumbent.
On a vaguely related topic, I smiled broadly on my way to work yesterday when I saw a car (with New Mexico plates, BTW) sporting this variation on the fish/Darwin magnet wars.
Comments
I like that magnet. I’m even more gratified to see that it’s temporarily sold out, from which one might infer there’s a bit of disgust with the whole debate.
(How appropriate that the captcha word is “real.")
