Slow news day
Saturday’s newspaper is often the most meager of the week for those seeking actual news. After tossing aside the auto dealer advertising, the weekend’s lists of real estate open houses, general classified and help wanted ads, there isn’t all that much left of the paper. Why, there weren’t even any op-ed pieces today.
Still, even on a slow news day, the front section of the newspaper does contain stories that beg our attention.

Yes, well, the Air Force was only alarmed after the Gulf War, but they put that all behind them during Bosnia/Kosovo. Only alarmed between wars, apparently.
Physiologic status though...under the influence they’d be more on edge than usual. This wouldn’t seem to be the state of mind from which to make reasoned, accurate decisions....
Yup, nothing like not practicing what you preach on commercials talking about the evils of drugs huh… its ok for the government but not ok for you… interesting indeed… and a shame that lives are lost :(
It gets better, of course.
Wednesday night’s local news included audio and video of the incident, as well as an inkling of the the pilots’ defense strategy—it was at least slightly hinted that they’ll try to blame the Air Force because they issued those pills. I wonder whether the corpsmen or docs or pharmacists who did the dispensing also ordered the pilots to swallow them.
