The guv race

Perhaps the last undecided election in the 2004 cycle (I’m assuming that in Ohio either there aren’t enough uncounted Kerry votes to change things, or Blackwell et al. have hidden them well enough and long enough to permit Republican Electors to put those 20 EVs into Dubya’s column) is the race for governor of Washington.  Smarmy wingnut Dino Rossi and ineffectual state AG Christine Gregoire are separated by a mere 261 votes out of nearly 2.9 million, triggering a mandatory machine-based recount that should be completed by Thanksgiving.

Over on DailyKos, I wrote a series of reports on the day-to-day happenings as absentee and provisional votes were counted by Washington’s 39 counties over the last week and a half.  Now, diary entries tend to cycle onto and off of Kos’s front page very rapidly, so not very many people saw my report late this afternoon, summarizing the race’s current status as we prepare for the recount.

I’m reprinting that diary here.  I don’t expect that it will be viewed by anything even slightly close to the number who saw its listing as a “recent diary” on dKos, but at least I know it will remain visible here (where nobody will see it, but so it goes) a whole lot longer…

I just saw your post on the DailyKos front page! I didn’t read the 100+ comments.

Keep up the good work!
