Peace Tree Farm

'Tis the season

As the year winds down, and as the festive season is upon us, a couple of important and worthy bloggers are humbly asking for our assistance in support of their invaluable efforts.  If you can help, it would be wonderful to toss a small Christmas or Hannukah or Kwanzaa gift in their direction.

  • A couple of days ago, Jeanne d’Arc of Body and Soul told us of the death of her computer.  Jeanne writes deep and thoughtful essays from the perspective of a mother attempting to raise her daughter as a good person in the face of George W. Bush’s dark and fearful world.  Her blog subtitle describes her viewpoint as The body politic, the human soul, and Billie Holiday, though like many of us the non-politics portion of her subject matter is too little in evidence.  After agonizing over the crassness of asking the blog community for help, she was finally convinced by her husband to test the waters.  Jeanne hasn’t yet reported in on the results of placing a tip jar on her front page, but I anticipate that we’ll soon be hearing about her new machine; the comment threads on the two posts I’ve linked to demonstrate the level of appreciation, and the spirit of giving, among her faithful readers.  You can make her report arrive that much sooner by contributing a few bucks to this estimable blogger.
  • Over at Wampum, Mary-Beth Williams, her husband Eric, and Dwight Meredith combine to present a multi-topic blog of tremendous breadth.  Their slogan gives you some idea of where they’re coming from:  Progressive Politics, Indian Issues, and Autism Advocacy.  Their thoughts are always challenging and provocative, sometimes infuriating and sometimes inspirational.  In addition (and the reason they’re asking for our monetary assistance), their blog hosts and runs the well-known and increasingly prestigious Koufax Awards for progressive bloggers.  In Koufax season, they have to support great big gobs of server space, bandwidth, hardware, and just plain clock time as they wade through the thousands and thousands of nominations, votes, postings, and comments surrounding the process.  If you want to help, their left (of course) column displays both a PayPal donation button and a link to their Amazon donation page.

I’ve already made contributions to both Body and Soul and Wampum.  I think either or both of them would be very worthy additions to your gift lists for the holidays.
