Peace Tree Farm

Worth 2000 words?

[UPDATE (May 2):  No correct guesses yet, so I’ve added another clue]

As the old saying goes, a picture is worth 1000 words.  Well, let’s test that.  And let’s test my (very, very few) readers as well, with a little quiz.

The question for you is this—where were the two pictures shown below taken?  I’ll give you two three (four, actually, as the new one includes two clues) pieces of information:

  • they were taken last Friday, April 25
  • I’m in both of them
  • the ballpark had three different names during its 88 years as a major league field

I’ve been crazy-busy lately.  Not just work-work, but also politics-work and a huge amount of SABR-work.  Not that that excuses my lengthy between-posts time gap, but there it is.  In any case, I’ll provide my pair of pictures and sit back to see whether anyone notices.  Who knows, someone might even be able to answer the location-quiz as well.

It’s not big or glitzy enough to be Safeco, is it?

Nope, it’s not Safeco.  I had to fly to the city in which this ballpark is located.

BTW, Liberty Mutual says it doesn’t plan to rename the ballpark after completing their acquisition of Safeco Insurance.

No Idea, but it looks like you’ve adopted my wearing hats. Some day, Particle won’t be able to tell us apart LOL

Well, it looks kinda old-timey, possibly AAA.  You had to fly, huh?  Hmm.

Nope, I give up.  Seals is gone.  Ooh! The Portland Beavers stadium!

Linky, I’ll post more on this mystery soon, perhaps with some additional pics.  I realize that these two shots don’t have sufficient detail to let you see what’s not in the stands (aside from people, that is).

In the meantime, though, I’ll say that this is definitely not PGE Park, which:

a) opened in 1926, some 14 years after the mystery ballpark
b) has about half the capacity of the mystery stadium
c) is in current use, and therefore well maintained
d) sadly and inexplicably, has an artificial surface

Besides, why would I fly to Portland?  Just getting to SeaTac would take me about 1/8 of the way there.

I didn’t realize the Grateful Dead were touring this spring…

Old Tiger Stadium, right?
