New toy

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted recently.  I know for sure that some have noticed it.

Well, at least some portion of that absence is due to the new toy I’m playing with.  After many years with the same desktop computer, I just plunked down a bit of money to get modern.  Quite a switch from a 500Mz Pentium III to a 64-bit AMD Athlon, from a 14GB drive to 250GB, from an 8MB video card to 64MB, from CD drives to rewriteable DVDs, from Windows98 to XP.

I’m still transferring files, reinstalling software, and all that.  Man, there’s a pile of files to go through, to put somewhere appropriate.  That’s tough when you’re as organizing-averse as I am.  Haven’t yet replaced the default Firefox bookmarks file with the one from the old machine, so I’m writing this posting from my laptop ... which does have the link to get to my ExpressionEngine blog-publishing site.  Still, this new machine flies compared to the old one, so it’ll definitely be a plus.

Oh, and I also splurged on a 17-inch flat-panel LCD monitor to replace my perfectly-good 17-inch CRT.  Now I have to figure out what to do with the old one.  It seems strange to have to pay someone to cart away your old monitor, so I’ll try to find someone who’d like a donation.
